Arriving in Riga

The fastest way from the airport (Lidosta) is to get into a taxi and give the driver your destination address, written down is often best!

Make sure you pick a RED car clearly marked as a taxi.... and check the meter is at 1.50 or no more than about 1.75 Ls before you set off.

The journey to Riga centre will cost around 7 to 8 Lats, (12 Euros, 14 US dollars or about 8/9 Pounds Sterling), and take about 20 minutes. (There is a money exchange at the airport).

Alternatively there is the bus (number 22 or 22A) these can be boarded at the bus stop at the far right side of the airport car park. They are frequent and usually coincide with flight arrivals. The number 22 costs 40 sentimes and the 22A (express) 45 sentimes per person. Large bags are usually charged at 80/90 sentimes each! The fare is standard no matter how far you travel on the bus. Each stop is announced as the bus is approaching a bus stop. One of the stops "Kugu Iela" (No22 ONLY) is a short walk from our Valguma & Staraja Rusas apartments. You can stay on (22A) until the last stop where everyone left will get off.... this is Katedrale, the Russian Orthodox Cathedral.... you MUST see inside, but not today if you have your baggage! The 22A will got to the central market (opposite the railway station).

This whole journey takes about 30 minutes. From here it is a short walk into Old Riga or another 40 sentime tram or bus ride to our Imanta or Krisjana barona apartments.

Please try to have the right money... buy a newspaper or sweets at the airport to change notes. Don't give the driver or conductor a 10 Lat note....

she won't be able to change it!! (imagine giving a UK bus driver a £50 note, for a 50 pence fare... same problem.
